The purpose-built Centre provides an observational laboratory for an early childhood program for children from six weeks to five years of age.

Within the Centre we have removed the hallmarks of an institution, replacing these with soft elements, for example, we use cottage-like lamps, home-like furniture and furnishings, baskets, flowers and plants to provide a "homely" appearance.

We do not use notice boards as we feel this does not allow for privacy for family information and they detract from the aesthetics of the environment.

Information is shared in a more personal manner, through individual notes, children's diaries and newsletters as well as daily contact.

As part of our desire to de-institutionalise the setting, a folding screen was especially made to display family and centre information. Families also use the space to review the handbook of policies. Families are also involved in the development of the Centre's policies, philosophies and programme evaluations.
